April 18, 2016 — Congratulations to our U10 Wildcats girls for winning both of their EPYSA Challenge Cup group stage matches this weekend and advancing undefeated into the quarterfinals!
On Friday night, the Wildcats played an exciting game against the Valley SC Velocity on our home field at Heebner Park. In an evenly matched, hard fought game, the Wildcats came from behind, down 1-0 at the half, to score the equalizer early in the second half. Our girls went on to take the lead midway through the second half with a great goal. However, Valley Velocity did not give up, and evened the score at 2-2 shortly thereafter. The Wildcats kept up the pressure, and won the game with the third and final goal.
The Wildcats played an aggressive game, challenging the ball in the middle and forward thirds with great effect. The defense worked well as a unit, shutting down most of the drives by the opponents. The midfielders and forwards did an outstanding job, with some great crosses and awesome passing combinations, especially in the second half of the game. Final Score
On Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats played another cup game, this time away at the CRUSA Blizzards in Southampton. Once again, this game was hard fought, and the Wildcats had to come from one goal behind, but managed to score the equalizer by halftime. The Wildcats owned possession in the second half and scored the winning goal midway through, nearly missing on several other scoring opportunities. Final score: 2-1 Wildcats.
With these two wins, the Wildcats will advance to the Quarterfinals and will play the winner of Group G.
